MUKAH – In his opening address, Sarawak State Commissioner of The Boys’ Brigade In Malaysia, Honorary Capt. Hii King Ong, praised his fellow Officers for their unity. The unity culture, he explained, was like a ‘treasure’ and called upon all to continue to preserve it.
Delegates from 38 out of 42 Companies in Sarawak had converged in Mukah for the 2020 State AGM from Mar 6 – 7.
Also present were guests National President Capt. Nicholas Yeap and National Treasurer Honorary Capt. Andy Tan from Brigade Malaysia.
Sarawak State Chaplain Rev. Dr. Khoo Ho Peng, and Honorary Capt. Joseph Tin with Honorary Capt. Lo Hoi Fook both who are Sarawak State Honorary Commissioners, also attended the event.
Citing Ephesians 4:3, Commissioner Hii said Apostle Paul advised all to endeavor in keeping the unity of the Spirit with the bond of peace. The former further reiterated that the Spirit-rooted, Christ-manifesting, truth-cherishing, humbly-loving unity was designed by God. The Commissioner also warned that the BB family while doing God’s ministry, they also faced a common enemy; Satan. “When there is disunity among us, we will eventually become victims of Satan.” Summing up his speech, Commissioner Hii reaffirmed Christ Jesus to be the Great Captain of BB, and the Anchor becoming the blessing, hope and good testimony to others.
State Chaplain Rev. Dr. Khoo Ho Peng, used Acts 20:13-38 in his exhortation. After reading the verses, the good shepherd reminded the delegates how Apostle Paul lived his transformed life as a servant-leader. He warned that the BB fine traditions used to do God’s work could turn out to be hindrances due to complacency. “BB has a submission to rank and file culture. In Paul’s last words with the Elders, the former reminded them to be diligent overseers. God’s Word builds up people in the long run.”
Continuing his exhortation, Rev. Dr. Khoo underscored four key essentials; “anything would be helpful (v. 20), the good news of God’s grace (v.24), the kingdom (v.25) and the whole will of God (v.27).
Summing up, Rev. Dr. Khoo added that in the face of constant challenges, the BB Members needed God’s Word to correct each other, to sustain the ministry and to build themselves up.

The newly-elected President was elated to visit Mukah and attend the Sarawak AGM for the first time. “The unity and comradeship among all the BB Officers made me felt so much at home. I had a good time of fellowship, reconnecting with the team and most importantly praying together. God is doing great things over here in Sarawak. More than 20,000 gifts were received by the needy community through last year’s BB Love Box project. Despite the fear of Covid-19, we will continue to fix our eyes unto the Lord, stand and pray for pandemic to be over. I can’t wait to be back again & visit more BB companies in the future.”
Brigade Treasurer Honorary Capt. Andy Tan also accompanied the Brigade President for the trip. “It was a great pleasure to attend the State AGM in Mukah. I am touched by the Officers’ commitment and serving spirit. I am humbly reminded of “Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, … (Hebrews 6:19 KJV).
Next year’s AGM will be in Limbang from March 12-13.
